We Want Justice

A member of the Pakistani Christian community holds a placard as he shouts slogans during a protest rally to condemn Sunday's suicide attack in Peshawar on a church, with others in Lahore September 23, 2013
Pakistan’s Blasphemy Laws are a tool for the Sunni Muslim population to persecute Christians. The law of the land of Pakistan is actually used to persecute Christians for their beliefs. Most Pakistani Christians are highly aware of the danger they live in if they complain about Islam in earshot of any Muslim. Because of this most blasphemy accusations are fabricated as revenge or some other nefarious design by Muslims. BUT think of it – the Islamic faith’s religious texts specifically claim Jesus is not the Son of God; hence when a frustrated Christian was to embark on a moment of bravery and tell an insulting Muslim that Jesus Christ is the Saving Messiah Son of God who arose from the dead in bodily resurrection and thus Mohammed is not telling the truth – that Christian will be sentenced to death.

ISLAMABAD: Lahore High Court – LHC judges have saved their skin and confirmed the death sentence of Asiya Bibi. Unfortunately, in [the] high profile case of Asiya Bibi, the radical groups are also tracking her case and their presences in the court have shown that they were willing to keep Asiya’s death sentence confirmed. I am just hypothesizing but I am sure that Justice Anwar ul Haq while deciding Asiya’s case at the LHC must be thinking about Salman Taseer (late) and Shahbaz Bhatti (late) and their own security.

Asiya Bibi was first sentenced to death in 2010, and now LHC upheld her death sentence. The mother of 5 was accused of blaspheming against [the] Prophet Mohammad following an argument with two Muslim co-workers during an incident in 2009 in one of her parent’s village.  There are dozens of these people waiting for their fate in different jails of Pakistan and many from the religious minorities were sentenced to death under 295-C PPC. The constitution of this country is:

295.
Injuring or defiling place of worship, with Intent to insult the religion of any class:

Whoever destroys, damages or defiles any place of worship, or any object held sacred by any class of persons with the intention of thereby insulting the religion of any class of persons or with the knowledge that any class of persons is likely to consider such destruction damage or defilement as an insult to their religion. Shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

295-A.
Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting Its religion or religious beliefs:

Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the 'religious feelings of any class of the citizens of Pakistan, by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representations insults the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, or with fine, or with both.

295-B.
Defiling, etc., of Holy Qur'an:

Whoever willfully defiles, damages or desecrates a copy of the Holy Qur'an or of an extract there from or uses it in any derogatory manner or for any unlawful purpose shall be punishable with imprisonment for life.
295-C.
Use of derogatory remarks, etc., in respect of the Holy Prophet:

Whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representation or by any imputation, innuendo, or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiles the sacred name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine.

Pakistani courts; under any circumstances are very strict to announce a death sentence to the accused of blasphemy from the people of religious minorities. And none of the judges from the senior court dares to remove the decision of a lower court. Likewise, we have seen with Asiya Bibi’s case, the LHC upheld her death sentence. If so, what about the section 295 A, which says, Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the 'religious feelings of any class of the citizens of Pakistan, by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representations insults the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, or with fine, or with both.  [Blog Editor: Bold emphasis is mine]

During the last few years, there are many incidents [that have] accrued of this kind; in Shinti Nagar, a hundred of the Holy Bibles were burnt by a mob. During the Gojra riots two churches and seven members of a family were burnt alive. Shanti Nagar, a Christian village with its churches was burnt, in Mardan, a hundred year old church with its old signs, pastor’s house and a school were turned to ashes. And in **Joseph Colony hundreds of the houses and two churches were burnt.  Alas! No one is being punished by the court. Many Muslims involved in riots were arrested and were released one after another. It is clearly seen here that JUDGES’ decisions seem biased here. When the constitution says whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of any class of the citizen of Pakistaninsults the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished [Blog Editor: Italics added by me for emphasis]. Unfortunately the law is being imposed on minorities but the rest of majority is not punished.

**[Blog Editor: To make the anguish of Pakistani Christians clear, I have found a video of the aftermath of the Joseph Colony Muslim attack triggered by yet another revenge moment by a Muslim against a Christian – Sawan Masih:

Published: Jul 5, 2013

Thousands of angry protesters on Saturday set ablaze more than 100 houses of Pakistani Christians over a blasphemy row in the eastern city of Lahore, officials said.

Over 3,000 Muslim protesters turned violent over derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed allegedly made by a young Christian, Sawan Masih, 28, three days earlier, police official Multan Khan said.

The exact number of houses in Joseph Colony, a Christian neighbourhood in Badami Bagh area, were not immediately known but police and rescue officials said they belonged to low to middle-class families from the minority community.

"Police arrested Masih, a sanitary worker, on Friday night while the incident actually happened on Wednesday evening," Khan told AFP.

He said that the arrest was made when Masih's barber friend Shahid Imran complained that he had made blasphemous remarks about Prophet Mohammed, adding that
READ THE REST after the video]

Was Pakistan being made for this day? Unfortunately; [the] religious [Islamic] mind-set segment is ruling in [our] country and [they] have forgotten that this country was not partitioned from India to become a Muslim state. Primarily the founder of our nation - Muhammad Ali Jinnah - had conceived [Pakistan] as a democratic state for Muslims and all other minorities [as well], [so] they could live together in peace and harmony and can worship freely. Non-Muslims of the region have struggled for this country so that they could be forever protected and treated as equal citizens.

I think there is chance apex [Highest] court can overturn the death sentence of the blasphemy cases, despite pressure on judges from radical groups that are determined to see Asiya executed. In many cases, especially blasphemy cases, court decisions are influenced, either by ideology or threats, by local radical groups. In this regard, at least President Barack Obama, the Pope and other Westerners can play a positive role to convince the Pakistani government to ensure justice in blasphemy cases facing a death sentence.

Blasphemy Law in Pakistan Slaughtered another Accused

Blasphemy Law in Pakistan Slaughtered another Accused

ISLAMABAD: During the tenure of Pakistan Muslim League (N), Joseph Colony was the second incident [Muslims attacking Christians] in the province Punjab. Earlier a Christian colony in Gojra was set in ablaze and a family was burnt alive. In Joseph Colony, there were no casualties in the Christian community during this incident but around 200 house dwellings, two churches and many shops were burnt including found Holy Bible and Holy books belonging to Christians.

The blasphemy suspect was identified as Sawan Masih 26 years of age. Police took him into custody and placed him on judicial remand. After a year of the case trial, Sawan Masih is reportedly been given the death sentence by the trial judge. What about those who burnt Bibles and holy Books of the Christians?

On March 09, 2013, a highly charged mob of a few thousand Muslims set ablaze around the 200 houses, shops and two churches of this more than 50 years old locality over the allegation of blasphemy against Sawan Masih. The violent mob, locals say, asked the Christian community to hand over the accused to them or get ready for the consequences. The mob burned their houses after looting all [the Christians’] valuables from almost every house, they said.

The Government has given reasonable financial compensation, but the scars are still there. Now Sawan Masih becomes another victim of the blasphemy law in the country.

Actually Sawan Masih (accused) [Blog Editor: Initial Shamim report] and Shahid Imran (complainant) were friends for the last ten years and the complainant used to run his stall in front of the colony. The residents claimed that local influential traders wanted to vacate the colony and turned it into godams (stores) to expand their business.

Furrakh H Saif, chief of World Vision in Progress (WVIP) considers it a kangaroo justice with the victims of blasphemy law. He said that judges are biased and are under pressure from Islamists. In its routine order, they will soon award death sentences to Shagufta with her husband Shafaqat and Pastor Adnan, he added.

Be Blessed,
Shamim Masih

Apex Court Proceeding Today
C J said that police had failed to protect the “property and dignity” of the Christians of Joseph Colony

ISLAMABAD PAKISTAN (Shamim Masih): The Supreme Court on Monday- three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry - declared that police had failed to protect the property and dignity of the Christians of the Joseph Colony, Lahore although no life was lost in the incident.

A three member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case over the arson attack on the Christians of Joseph Colony, Badami Bagh, Lahore. The CJ said that Punjab Police had failed to conduct an honest, thorough investigation into the Badami Bagh incident in which over 178 houses were ransacked and set alight by a charged mob over an alleged blasphemy incident.

The Court adjourned the hearing until March 25, 2013 on assurance by new CCPO Lahore Muhammad Amlish, who vowed before the bench that he would dig the truth. Earlier the Court rejected the report on the incident.

This is the very first time in the Pakistani history that the Supreme Court expressed deep frustration and anguish. CJ expressed the intention to take over the investigation. CJ was shocked and remarked over the contents of the FIR read out by the SSP investigation, he said, “it seems that the Courts will have to take charge of investigation too.”

Justice Gulzar Ahmad said, the incident has caused an element of trauma that will keep on lingering in the minds of minority Christians living across Pakistan.

A few of the human rights activists including Basharat Khokhar (Here and Here) and Joseph Francis was present in the court today. J Salik - ex-federal minister - showed his sympathy by attending today’s Court proceeding.

Be Blessed,

Pakistani-Christians Don’t have Right to Protest…

pakistan-blasphemy-protest
Shamim Masih is a Pakistani Christian that is both a journalist and Human Rights activist. He has been giving me an on the scene perspective of Islamic Supremacism in action in Pakistan of the crazy persecution of Christians at the hand of Muslims that erupted when a vengeful minded Muslim decided to take issue with his (I am guessing former) drinking companion with Christian roots. The Muslim former drinking buddy cried to a Muslim Cleric that Sawan Masih had blasphemed the Muslim Prophet Mohammed. The Cleric called for action that led to the massive destruction of Joseph Colony Christian homes and the Church at the Christian community.

Shamim has updated me that the Muslim Supremacism is continuing with Muslim agitators threatening Christian protesters with harm and murder if they continue to protest against Islamic Supremacist persecution of Christians.

Pakistani-Christians Don’t have Right to Protest Against the Misuse of Blasphemy Law

By Shamim Masih
Sent: 3/14/2013 3:32 PM

Islamabad Pakistan (Shamim Masih): Hundreds Pakistani Christians become homeless in Badami Bagh, Lahore. 200 homes of Joseph Colony were turned to ashes and poor Christians are sitting in the streets, looking for food and their needs. Their children couldn’t attend their school and colleges since last Friday. They are helpless and unable to do anything for themselves, while Christians around the country stood to become their voice but were severely beaten by police in Youhanabad and Kot Lakhpat, Lahore. There were protests in Islamabad/Rawalpindi as well. But Muslims of Jhelam City threaten to burn the Christians home like Joseph Colony Lahore, when they went to protest to show solidarity with other Christians.

According to sources, on March 12, 2013, when Christians of Jhelam city went to protest against the violence in Joseph Colony, chanting slogans “Repeal Blasphemy Law” and “Blasphemy law is Black Law”. The Islamists announced in Mosque loudspeakers to gather to punish those Christians who called Blasphemy law to be a black law during the protest. The radical Muslims pressured area police station to lodge First Investigation Report – FIR under 295-C PPC under blasphemy law against Christians who chanted slogans against blasphemy law.

Basharat Khokhar, a human rights activist told that there were around 26 Christian families living among Muslim masses, Machine 2 mahallah since partition. The local Christians arranged a protest to show their solidarity with the Christians of Joseph Colony, Lahore. And Mr. George Masih led the protest rally. They got permission from the District Police Officer (DPO) who provided them security. There were 250 people in the protest rally. The next day, Muslims demanded the police to arrest George Masih and to register FIRJoseph Francis - CLAAS Director Pakistan against him. The situation became tense in the city but fortunately the administration involved both the religious leadership and Joseph Francis [CLAAS Profile] from CLAAS [Introduction Page] intervened to solve the issue.

There is another mishap, according to Pastor Naeem Bhadhar, a Presbyterian missionary living in a village KALASWALA, Pasroor Road, district Sialkot, 140 km away from Lahore city. He told me on the telephone that he had arranged a protest rally in their city but today on 14th March, 2013, as he was travelling back to his village, a few radical Muslims from Jammat ut Dawa (a Muslim organization) [Background info HERE and HERE] had severely beaten him with sticks and broke his motor bike. He was injured and was taken to the hospital. There Pastor Bhadhar got 3 stitches on his left arm. They warned him if any one of the Christians came to protest they will kill them.

This is how peace loving Muslims treat Christians in Pakistan. It’s time to wake up and to raise a voice for the rights.
