TOP U.S. LEGISLATORS TAKING ON RADICAL ISLAM

We can stop Radical Islam

ACT for America has come up with a list of the top ten members of Congress relating to National Security. Now I am uncertain if this top ten is a numerical rating or just a random order of ACT’s ten favorite. Either way I like the ten selected.

A REPORT ON THE 112TH CONGRESS

As the 112th Congress winds down (it officially ends on January 3, 2013), we thought you might be interested in a review of the Members of Congress who have been particularly strong on national security issues over the past two years and, in particular, staunch defenders against the threat of radical Islam to our nation.

NOTE: You will be able to track the national security grade we’ve given to YOUR individual Member of Congress via our soon-to-be-released Congressional Scorecard. Stay tuned!

We feel that the following Members of Congress are at the top tier when it comes to consistently stepping up to the plate in the fight against radical Islam in the United States. Here’s why:

Congressman Peter King (NY-3) – As Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Congressman King has a history of being active in the fight against radical Islam, but particularly during the 112th Congress. Over the last two years, Chairman King has held five hearings on various aspects of Islamic radicalization. In addition, he has been a guest on the ACT! for America TV show, a speaker on one of our monthly Chapter Leader conference calls, and has actively participated in our annual Legislative Briefings. Chairman King is a sponsor of two legislative priorities of ours, H.R. 495, the “See Something, Say Something Act” and H.R. 2623, the “9/11 Commission Review Act.” He has been a recipient of multiple ACT! for America awards, including the National Security Eagle Award, our highest legislative honor.
http://peteking.house.gov/

Congressman Allen West (FL-22) – Congressman Allen West, a freshman in the 112th Congress, hit the ground running on our issues. Already well-educated on radical Islam, he has consistently spoken out about the threat, and what our nation must do about it. The Congressman is a sponsor of one of our legislative priorities: H.R. 1142, the “Global Combat Zone Recognition Act” which would award the Purple Heart to victims of the Ft. Hood and Little Rock Arkansas jihadist attacks. He also has been a guest on the ACT! for America TV show, a speaker on one of our monthly Chapter Leader conference calls, a participant in our annual Legislative Briefings, the Keynote Speaker at a National Conference Gala Dinner and the Keynote speaker at this year’s Congressional Awards Luncheon. Congressman West has also received the National Security Eagle Award for two consecutive years, our highest legislative honor.
http://west.house.gov/

Congressman Louie Gohmert (TX-1) – Congressman Louie Gohmert has been a strong ally in the defense against radical Islam. A former federal judge, the Congressman has spent much time on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives educating his colleagues and C-SPAN viewers about these issues. In addition, earlier this year, Congressman Gohmert introduced an ACT! for America petition into the Congressional Record. The petition was signed by thousands of Americans expressing their concerns about changes to government counter terrorism training materials. The Congressman has been a guest on a monthly Chapter Leader conference call, has participated in our annual Legislative Briefings, and has received our National Security Eagle Award, our highest legislative honor.
http://gohmert.house.gov/

Congresswoman Sue Myrick (NC-9) – Congresswoman Sue Myrick was one of the first in the U.S. Congress to take a public stand against radical Islam. She was a co-founder of the House Anti-terrorism Caucus and addressed the issue of radical Islam in the House Intelligence Committee, where she led a hearing on the Muslim Brotherhood. Congresswoman Myrick has been a steadfast ally of ACT! for America. She is a sponsor of H.R. 504, the “First Responders Fighting Terrorism Protection Act,” one of our legislative priorities; she has participated in our annual Legislative Briefings, and has appeared as a guest on the ACT! for America TV show. The Congresswoman has received multiple awards including the National Security Eagle Award, our highest legislative honor for three consecutive years. Congresswoman Myrick is retiring from the U.S. Congress at the end of this year, but we know she will continue her crusade to protect our nation as a private citizen.
http://myrick.house.gov/

Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-2) – Congressman Trent Franks has been a strong ally of ACT! for America for years, speaking out in defense of our nation’s religious and democratic freedoms and against the threat of radical Islam. Through these actions and as a sponsor of H.R. 668, the SHIELD Act, legislation that would protect our nation against the threat of an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) attack (one of ACT! for America’s legislative priorities), the Congressman has demonstrated consistent leadership in the area of national security. Congressman Franks has been a speaker on a Chapter Leader conference call; he has appeared as a guest on the ACT! for America TV show, and he has participated in our annual Legislative Briefings. Mr. Franks also has received our National Security Patriot Award for four consecutive years.
http://www.franks.house.gov/

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-6) – A participant in the Republican Presidential primary race, Congresswoman Bachmann has demonstrated time and again her leadership in the fight against radical Islam. She has taken the time to become educated on the threat (even attending some sessions of our annual National Conference on her personal time) and recently joined four of her colleagues in the House of Representatives to call for Inspector General-level investigations into whether the Muslim Brotherhood has impacted some of our federal agencies. Despite a vicious attack against her by the mainstream media and even some of her Republican colleagues, the Congresswoman did not back down. Mrs. Bachmann has been a guest speaker on a Chapter Leader conference call and has attended our annual Legislative Briefings.
http://bachmann.house.gov/

Congressman Dan Lungren (CA-3) – Congressman Lungren, a former California Attorney General, has made national security issues a priority during the 112th Congress, in particular, the issue of radical Islam’s threat to our democratic freedoms. Particularly in his work on the House Homeland Security and Judiciary Committees, the Congressman has consistently grilled Administration officials on these matters, holding their feet to the fire. If you missed the Congressman’s grilling of Paul Stockton, Assistant Defense Secretary for Homeland Defense, you can view it by clicking
HERE (trust us, it’s worth watching). Congressman Lungren has taken the time to get educated on the issue of radical Islam and further, has not been timid about speaking out about it. The Congressman addressed our members at the 2012 ACT! for America Legislative Briefing and was a recipient of this year’s National Security Patriot Award. http://lungren.house.gov/

Congressman Lamar Smith (TX-21) – As Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a member of the Homeland Security Committee, Congressman Smith has spent the 112th Congress focusing on many issues concerning our nation’s security—in particular strengthening our nation’s borders and ports. One of the bills that he introduced during this Congress, H.R. 1741, the Secure Visas Act, is a legislative priority of ACT! for America and he included an ACT! for America letter of support for the bill into the official Judiciary Committee Record. Congressman Smith has been a consistent ally of ACT! for America. He has participated in our annual Legislative Briefings and has been a recipient of the National Security Patriot Award for multiple years.
http://lamarsmith.house.gov/

Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-3) – A freshman member of the 112th Congress, Congressman Duncan was another federal legislator who “hit the ground running” on national security issues, immediately educating himself on the threat of radical Islam and then aggressively addressing that threat through his work on both the House Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs Committees. Congressman Duncan is a sponsor of H.R. 3783, the “Countering Iran in the Western Hemisphere Act” one of ACT! for America’s High Priority legislative proposals. In addition, he has sponsored one of our Hill Staff Briefings (on the issue of the Muslim Brotherhood), has addressed our members during our annual Legislative Briefings and has been a recipient of our National Security Patriot Award for the last two years.
http://jeffduncan.house.gov/

Congressman Chip Cravaack (MN-8) – A freshman member of the 112th Congress, Congressman Cravaack has made national security issues a top priority, educating himself on Islamic radicalization and addressing this issue through his work in the House Homeland Security Committee. As both a former pilot and veteran, the Congressman has focused in particular on the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Congressman Cravaack has been a guest speaker on a monthly Chapter Leader conference call, has spoken at our annual Legislative Briefing, and has been a recipient of our National Security Patriot Award for two consecutive years.
http://cravaack.house.gov/

Congressman Frank Wolf (VA-10) – As Chairman of a House Appropriations Subcommittee that funds key counterterrorism agencies, the Congressman has a history of being focused on national security issues. He has been a vocal critic of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and was a witness at Congressman Peter King’s first hearing on Islamic radicalization. Congressman Wolf is the sponsor of H.R. 1502, the Team B Act, one of ACT! for America’s legislative priorities, and a co-author (with Chairman King) of legislation that would bring back the Co-Chairs of the 9/11 Commission to evaluate the implementation of their recommendations. In addition the Congressman has been a guest speaker on one of our monthly Chapter Leader conference calls and has spoken at our annual Legislative Briefings. He has also received our National Security Patriot Award for multiple years.
http://wolf.house.gov/

Senator Joseph Lieberman (CT) – As Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, Senator Lieberman has been consistent in his focus on the threat of radical Islam. Under his leadership, the committee has investigated violent Islamist radicalization through multiple hearings (including a joint House Senate Hearing he held with Chairman King), and he ordered a formal investigation into the federal government’s conduct with regard to the Ft. Hood attack. The Senator has been a past recipient of the National Security Patriot Award.

Hezbollah and our southern border

ACT for America showcases a Washington Times article in today’s email alert written by Representative Sue Myrick of the House Anti-Terrorism Caucus. Myrick writes a Hezbollah connection to the Terrorist/Drug terrorists of Columbia known as FARC and Mexican drug cartels. Hello! We are talking about Mexican violence across the Mexican/American border that President Barack Hussein Obama has nearly given a free pass to. Thwarting the will of Arizona voters on their State legislation to be tougher on enforcing immigration is a grand example of BHO’s lack of commitment to protect Americans on the American side of the border. The national polls indicated that Americans outside of Arizona overwhelming supported the stricter enforcement of immigration and protecting the border regardless of the propaganda of the Leftist MSM and misguided Mexican-American advocacy groups who worried more about racial profiling than living a safe life.

Short video asks why Napolitano refuses to act

U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick, Co-chair of the House Anti-Terrorism Caucus, penned an op-ed in The Washington Times recently (below) regarding the presence of Hezbollah on our southern border.

She also posted a short, 2:30 video that we encourage you to view and forward to your friends and family. Brigitte Gabriel has been warning America for some time now that Hezbollah is infiltrating our southern border and establishing terror cells here in the U.S.

The threat of Hezbollah terrorism coming across our southern border continues to grow—while Department of Homeland Security director Janet Napolitano ignores calls for a task force to investigate this threat.

MYRICK: Hezbollah car bombs on our border
Why isn't Obama's Department of Homeland Security concerned?

By Rep. Sue Myrick
The Washington Times

An indictment was handed down Aug. 30 by the Southern District Court of New York that shows a connection between Hezbollah - the proxy army of Iran and a designated terrorist organization - and the drug cartels that violently plague the U.S.-Mexico border.

In short, a well-known international arms dealer was trying to orchestrate an arms-for-drugs deal in which cocaine from FARC - the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, which works with Mexican drug cartels to take cocaine into America - would be traded for thousands of weapons housed by a Hezbollah operative in Mexico.

This most recent case brings up several questions: Why would a member of Hezbollah be in Mexico? Why would Hezbollah need thousands of weapons in Mexico? Why are members of Hezbollah willing to work with FARC? Perhaps to exchange weapons for drugs? If Hezbollah has guns in Mexico and wants drugs, isn't it logical to assume that it is trading with more accessible Mexican drug cartels?

This is just the most recent incident in which it's clear that Hezbollah may have a presence in Mexico and along our southern border. There have been more incidents - which have been ignored by the Obama administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

On June 23, I sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano asking her to establish a task force to investigate the presence of Hezbollah along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The evidence is there: Hezbollah's cooperation with countries across South America. Highly sophisticated tunnels for transferring drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border, ones very similar to the tunnels dug by Hezbollah into Israel. The close relationship between Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and the increase in Iranian nationals traveling through Venezuela to receive false documents, which they use to cross into the United States. Mexican officials raising concerns about Hezbollah operatives possibly training Mexican drug cartel enforcers in making car bombs.

Michael Braun, a former Drug Enforcement Administration chief of operations, has even been quoted as saying, "Hezbollah relies on the same criminal weapons smugglers, document traffickers and transportation experts as the drug cartels. ... They work together; they rely on the same shadow facilitators. One way or another, they are all connected."

Only a few weeks after I sent this letter, it was reported that Jameel Nasr, a Mexican national with ties to Hezbollah in Lebanon, "entrusted with forming a base in South America and the United States to carry out operations against Israeli and Western targets," was arrested by the Mexican government. Days later, a cell-phone-detonated car bomb - the first of its kind reported used by Mexican drug cartels - was deployed just across the U.S.-Mexico border in Juarez. On Aug. 27, another car bomb exploded in a U.S.-Mexico border state. These car bombs show an evolution in the tactics being used by the drug cartels and bear a strong resemblance to those employed by Hezbollah, raising questions as to who trained the cartels.

Doesn't the protection of the American public deserve answers? The primary role of the federal government is to protect its citizens. Unfortunately, the administration continues to sit by idly while security threats go uninvestigated. And that's all I'm requesting - an investigation to find out what's going on along our southern border.

To date, I have not received a response from the Department of Homeland Security informing me of any decision to investigate. How much more is it going to take?

CAIR: ACT for America is a Hate-Group

John R. Houk
© April 19, 2010

Not too long ago ACT for America operated a petition program against the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) which encouraged a Federal investigation because of the group’s affiliation to Islamic terrorist organization Hamas. The Hamas connection was made stronger by linking CAIR as an unindicted co-conspirator to the now convicted defendants of the Holy Land Foundation trial.

Typically CAIR is addressing the petition to be investigated by NOT providing corroborating evidence exonerating them self from an Islamic terrorist connection. Rather CAIR has decided to go after ACT for America calling it an anti-Islamic hate-group. Remarkably CAIR has solicited the support of a pedophilia supporting Episcopalian minister to bark at Rep. Sue Myrick for supporting ACT for America as a hate-group.

Myrick the Bold VS Saracens in America

John R. Houk
© February 26, 2010

Isn’t it interesting that Muslim-American organizations or Islamic apologists use the race card or the hate speech card when an ex-Muslim or one who exposes the violence in Islam on an educational basis?

Representative Sue Myrick (R-NC) has been an outspoken critic of the dangers of Islamic infiltration in America with the goal of subverting core beliefs and way of life.

In a story published February 25, 2010 in the Charlotte News Observer from the AP wire quotes a State legislator from North Carolina attempting to silence Myrick with the typical Islamic apologist mode. O yeah both legislators are democrats that have Muslim constituents. Here is the quote:

“Some conservatives have applauded her views, but some Muslims said they fear Myrick's tone endangers their community.

"It's looking like she's taking on a tinge of McCarthyism, and this is dangerous," said state Sen. Larry Shaw, D-Cumberland. "She's becoming a hatemonger. And that's sad. This is an intelligent woman, and I think she's a good woman."

Shaw is national chairman for the Council of American-Islamic Relations, a civil rights group Myrick has accused of planting spies on Capitol Hill by trying to get Muslim interns hired in congressional offices. (Emphasis is mine)

When racism and hate-speech don’t convey the point of a Democrat or Muslim apologist, the next level is to use the McCarthyism card. Old Senator Joe McCarthy from Wisconsin made it his political crusade to expose Communists and Soviet sympathizers in American government in the 1950’s.

In the beginning of McCarthy’s crusade he was hailed as an American patriotic hero protecting the American way of life. However, as McCarthy began to get closer and closer to the power elites of the American government in and out of power, a political push back began to occur. McCarthy either had difficulty proving the possession of names in government or exaggerated the names in his passionate zeal to reveal a fifth column in America. Ironically unclassified documents from America and Russia were more correct than in error.

Between the Press and the effective political push back against McCarthy, the profile of an insane witch hunter began to emerge. As McCarthy’s negative profile grew and grew amongst the reporting Mainstream Media of the day, his popularity and credibility became ruined. The lack of credibility led to censure and alcoholism for a broken Senator Joe McCarthy.

You can see the seriousness of the public ridicule of McCarthyism ascribed to Rep. Myrick. McCarthyism is an epithet to imply a wild-eyed witch hunter that should not be taken seriously. There is the rub! There is plenty of evidence. The evidence is whitewashed by Western Leftists and Muslim apologists in the name of multiculturalist diversity. In America multiculturalism tends to exclude Christianity, hence the Leftist affinity for defending Islam as a religion of peace.

ACT for America sent an e-alert about this disparagement of Rep. Sue Myrick. The e-alert included the Charlotte News Observer story of Myrick. When I checked the link to the story I discovered the story was sanitized to eliminate State Senator Shaw’s epithet of “McCarthyism” and “hate-monger”.

I don’t know if someone from Myrick’s office complained or if the chief publisher thought it in bad taste to assign a Federal Representative to Congress such negative epithets.

Below I am going to cross post the e-alert article captured by ACT for America. You can check out the updated link at the Charlotte News Observer if you so choose.

Muslim leader slings 'McCarthyism' slur at Congresswoman

U.S. Representative Sue Myrick, co-founder of the House Anti-terrorism Caucus, is a courageous public servant and passionate defender of our national security. She understands the multiple ways in which radical Islam threatens America and she has been willing to speak out about this threat.

ACT! for America was privileged to have Rep. Myrick address our legislative briefing last year in Washington, at which we were honored to present her with our 2009 Patriot Award.

But public servants like Rep. Myrick receive other “awards” as well, such as the name-calling and smear tactics that distinguish the propaganda playbook of Islamists and their apologists.

Thus, in the story below, North Carolina State Senator Larry Shaw trots out….drum roll please…the tired epithet of “McCarthyism.”

Mr. Shaw is identified below as the national chairman of CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations—the unindicted co-conspirator organization whom the FBI severed official ties with a year ago.

This June 27th to 29th, you will have the opportunity to meet and hear from courageous and informed Members of Congress like Sue Myrick, at our National Conference and Legislative Briefing in Washington, DC.

But as we noted when we announced the conference on Monday, we urge you not to wait too long to register, as space is limited. In fact, in just four days we have already booked over 15% of the available registrations.

US Rep. Myrick meets NC Muslims, warns of dangers

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/02/25/357589/us-rep-myrick-meets-nc-muslims.html?storylink=misearch

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After months of warning that Islamic radicals are infiltrating mainstream groups, U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick was to meet Thursday with Muslim constituents to explain her position.

Myrick, R-N.C., has said Islamic extremists are working their way into U.S. Muslim communities, infiltrating government institutions and influencing American citizens to attack their own country, The Charlotte Observer reported.

"I want people to be aware of the fact that it does exist and it is a threat to our national security," said Myrick, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee. "It could be an American citizen that could be radicalized by one way or another."

Jibril Hough, spokesman for the Islamic Center of Charlotte, said he hopes Thursday night's town hall meeting is the first of many between Myrick and the Muslim community.

Myrick said she wants constituents to understand that her concerns aren't about the rising visibility of the Islamic faith.

"We live in the United States of America, where we have freedom of religion for everybody," Myrick said.

Instead, the former Charlotte mayor said her view was strengthened by top-secret briefings from U.S. intelligence officials that she said she could not discuss.

"There's a threat out there to our security," Myrick said. "It's worse than I thought."

She has proposed fighting Islamic radicalization by cutting off exchange programs and weapons sales with Saudi Arabia, passing legislation that would make it a treasonous offense to call for the death of American citizens and investigating the selection of Arabic translators.

Some conservatives have applauded her views, but some Muslims said they fear Myrick's tone endangers their community.

Last fall she wrote the foreword to a new book, "Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Seeking to Islamize America," which accuses CAIR of conspiring to support international jihad against the United States.

Myrick has said her fears about infiltration were realized in November, when Army Maj. Nidal Hasan killed 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas. Hasan, a psychiatrist, had trained colleagues on how to handle Muslims in the military. The FBI had been monitoring contact between Hasan and a radical Yemeni-American cleric.

Some experts disagree with Myrick's view that radicalized Islamic Americans present a growing terrorism threat. A study released last month by researchers at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill found 139 Muslim-Americans involved in alleged or confirmed terrorism incidents since Sept. 11, 2001, out of a national Muslim-American population of more than 3 million.

"We have a problem," said David Schanzer, lead author of the study and director of the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security. "It's important to keep it in perspective in its size and dangerousness, which I think are generally overblown."
