Pavel Durov – ‘A Dark, Dystopian World is Approaching Fast’

Okay READERS, I Telegram. I do have a Telegram Channel called SlantRight 2.0 with a sad membership of 12 people as of this typing. Actually I do not begrudge the low membership because Telegram has been a great source Social Media news and videos for me over the time I’ve been on it. Just a warning though about Telegram: One has to read or watch with a discerning spirit or mind because not everyone is who they claim to be.

 

In saying that, I came across a brief post by Telegram Founder Pavel Durov posted on 10/9/25 that is a warning of Liberty-Lost and Freedom-Lost in relation to Internet usage.

 

Before I share Durov’s warning, it occurs to me, many have no idea who is.

I posted twice in August 2024 on some legal issues Durov was facing from France over extremist issues relating to Telegram – HERE & HERE.

 

Tucker Carlson posted an over an hour interview with Durov on June 2025 you might want to catch on RUMBLE.

 

On September 30, 2025 the Youtube Channel of Lex Fridman posted 4:34:09-Hours of time with Pavel Durov (which I have not yet viewed except the interesting intro). Lex Fridman has posted a transcript of that Youtube video if you think that might save some time by reading. The title: “Pavel Durov: Telegram, Freedom, Censorship, Money, Power & Human Nature | Lex Fridman Podcast #482”.

 

Durov is a BILLIONAIRE so Forbes has info on him.

 

NDTV has reported on Durov’s warning but sources a X-Tweet rather than Telegram.

 

An English version of the Hindustan Times has a great summarized bio posted 7/20/25. I’ll excerpt down to the subheading “Who is Pavel Durov?”:

 

“According to the reports, Durov is often dubbed as ‘Russia’s Mark Zuckerberg’. He launched Telegram in 2013 as a response to increasing government censorship. The app now has over one billion monthly active users, as per Tech Crunch, and is known for its encrypted messaging and pro-privacy stance.

 

Based in Dubai, Durov reportedly holds dual citizenship in France and the United Arab Emirates, but Russian authorities still consider him a citizen. He left Russia in 2014 after refusing a Kremlin order to shut down opposition pages on the social media platform he co-founded before Telegram, VKontakte.

 

Pavel Durov studied at Saint Petersburg State University and graduated in 2006, as per his LinkedIn profile.

 

In an April 2025 interview with US host Tucker Carlson, Durov said he would ignore government requests that violated Telegram’s values. He had said Telegram won't comply with requests undermining free speech or user privacy.” …MORE TO READ

I’m turning 41, but I don’t feel like celebrating.

 

Our generation is running out of time to save the free Internet built for us by our fathers.

 

What was once the promise of the free exchange of information is being turned into the ultimate tool of control.

 

Once-free countries are introducing dystopian measures such as digital IDs (UK), online age checks (Australia), and mass scanning of private messages (EU).

 

Germany is persecuting anyone who dares to criticize officials on the Internet. The UK is imprisoning thousands for their tweets. France is criminally investigating tech leaders who defend freedom and privacy.

 

A dark, dystopian world is approaching fast — while we’re asleep. Our generation risks going down in history as the last one that had freedoms — and allowed them to be taken away.

 

We’ve been fed a lie.

 

We’ve been made to believe that the greatest fight of our generation is to destroy everything our forefathers left us: tradition, privacy, sovereignty, the free market, and free speech.

 

By betraying the legacy of our ancestors, we’ve set ourselves on a path toward self-destruction — moral, intellectual, economic, and ultimately biological.

 

So no, I’m not going to celebrate today. I’m running out of time. We are running out of time.

That Far from the Truth?

Essentially President Barack Hussein Obama and the Leftist Dems have nationalized the Internet with the propaganda campaign of making the Net freer. It turns out the reality is the Internet is under tighter manipulative control by the government – meaning bureaucrats with a political axe to grind. You can thank the President for making sure three out of five FCC board members were his Dem acolytes. The vote incidentally was three Dems to two Republican board members.

Protect Internet Freedom sent an email with a link to a video using parody to show how government oversight of the Internet will operate. Below is the text of the email and I will include the video about where it is located on the original email.

I just received an email from her that may have little to do with the typical Counterjihad writing exposing the true nature of what Islam means to a Liberty loving nation like the USA. Surely you have to be aware that the UN has a very different concept of what Liberty is than the American Constitution. Once again President Obama is putting you and your family at risk by giving power to the United Nations (UN) to control the Internet and muzzle YOUR freedom of speech, putting you at a risk of legal action just for expressing your view on the Internet.

Unfortunately, the largest voting bloc in the UN is the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a Saudi-dominated bloc of 57 nations that has waged an aggressive campaign against free speech, freedom of the press and free expression.

For an American president to betray the American public, our founding fathers, our Constitution, and throw our freedom of speech at the feet of tyrants to decide what we can and cannot say under the threat of a law suit for hate crime is unconscionable – shameful – reckless and stretches the boundaries of betrayal.

Our founding fathers are turning in their grave.

UN members have called for a UN agency called the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to replace America’s authority and challenge an open Internet. One critic calls the ITU “the chosen vehicle for regimes for whom the free and open Internet is seen as an existential threat.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, many UN member-nations want the ITU to outlaw anonymity on the Web (which would make it easier to identify dissidents) and to add a fee charged to providers when people gain access to the Web “internationally.” This, in effect, would create a tax on U.S.-based sites such as Google and Facebook. The unspoken aim is to discourage global Internet companies from giving everyone equal access.

This harmful legislation, called the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate, will be voted on as early as January 24th in the Senate.

This is an egregious moment of infringing on Free Speech. Apparently these Senate and House Bills had broad bipartisan support in Congress. Thanks to the money of unlikely heroes of some Internet Media giants such as Google, Wikipedia, YouTube and others; Congressional support has began to wane. This is particularly the case among Republicans that have been educated on the theft of Liberty these two Bills represent in the use of their constituents of the Internet.

Members of Congress are trying to do the right thing by going after pirates and counterfeiters but SOPA and PIPA are the wrong way to do it.

1. SOPA and PIPA would censor the Web

The U.S. government could order the blocking of sites using methods similar to those employed by China. Among other things, search engines could be forced to delete entire websites from their search results. That’s why 41 human rights organizations and 110 prominent law professors have expressed grave concerns about the bills.

2. SOPA and PIPA would be job-killers because they would create a new era of uncertainty for American business

Law-abiding U.S. internet companies would have to monitor everything users link to or upload or face the risk of time-consuming litigation. That’s why AOL, EBay, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Mozilla, Twitter, Yahoo and Zynga wrote a letter to Congress saying these bills “pose a serious risk to our industry’s continued track record of innovation and job-creation.” It’s also why 55 of America’s most successful venture capitalists expressed concern that PIPA “would stifle investment in Internet services, throttle innovation, and hurt American competitiveness”. More than 204 entrepreneurs told Congress that PIPA and SOPA would “hurt economic growth and chill innovation”.

3. SOPA and PIPA wouldn’t stop piracy

To make matters worse, SOPA and PIPA won’t even work. The censorship regulations written into these bills won’t shut down pirate sites. These sites will just change their addresses and continue their criminal activities, while law-abiding companies will suffer high penalties for breaches they can’t possibly control.

There are effective ways to combat foreign “rogue” websites dedicated to copyright infringement and trademark counterfeiting, while preserving the innovation and dynamism that have made the Internet such an important driver of American economic growth and job creation. Congress should consider alternatives like the OPEN Act, which takes targeted and focused steps to cut off the money supply from foreign pirate sites without making US companies censor the Web.
