Consider History, Racism and Redemption

Justin Smith highlights the deception the Left has to actual history. The American Left imposes the bad news over the good news of history in an effort to transform the minds and hearts of Americans through violence, intimidation, twisted facts and outright lies.

Consider History, Racism and Redemption

By Justin O. Smith

I wonder when they will start tearing down statues of Democrat Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia who was a leader in the Ku Klux Klan, and will they destroy or rename buildings and roads bearing his name?!???

Robert Byrd (younger days)

In a letter to Senator Theodore Bilbo (D-MS) in 1944, Senator Byrd declared:

“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a negro by my side ... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”

On one critical issue, Byrd broke ranks with his Democratic colleagues. In 1964, when the Civil Rights Act was being considered for passage on the Senate floor, Byrd filibustered for 15 hours, declaring at one point, "Men are not created equal today, and they were not created equal in 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was written...Men and races of men differ in appearance, ways, physical power, mental capacity, creativity, and vision." Byrd would later apologize profusely for these opinions and his participation in the KKK.

According to Fox News, there are no less than 20 buildings, from universities to courthouses, and three highways wearing Byrd’s name, in honor of his “accomplishments”. Multiple buildings are named for him on the campus of Marshall University alone, which is, in fact, now calling for them to be renamed.

Upon Byrd’s death, he had allies even in the Civil Rights movement, with the NAACP at the time praising his legacy and his transformation from a former KKK member to a “stalwart supporter” of civil rights. Byrd’s evolution, however genuine or simply for political points and show, was even honored by then President Obama, after he died.

Once one starts erasing history, no one is safe from the destruction.

You may not like what a person stood for but rather than seeing any particular statue as an idol or representative of the bad the person did, try to understand why the statue was erected in the beginning. And if there's nothing socially redeeming about the person and his actions over a lifetime, understand him and those actions through the prism of history, as a teaching tool to build a better society and prevent a repeat of those same horrible mistakes and deeds.

Often times, men associated with the Civil War, such as General Nathan Bedford Forest, did a good number of fine things before and after the war. Forest actually worked towards racial reconciliation and healing in America, despite false claims that he founded the KKK.

[Blog Editor: One should remember history is disseminated through the eyes of the victors. Nathan Bedford Forrest benefits as a historical enigma. Since the Confederate seceding States were not obliterated but defeated with the concept of restoration to the Union, depending on historical sources Forrest was a villain or hero. In today’s Leftist revisionist history obsesses with cancelling the past, Forrest is in the villain lane. With that in mind every source I consulted places Forrest in the beginnings of the KKK yet when questioned under oath in Congress in 1871 Forrest denied KKK association yet writings and interviews at the least KKK sympathies. I am listing several biography sources that connect Forrest to the KKK in varying degrees and one source indicating Forrest a proponent of Black civil rights later in life. None of the finger-pointing KKK biography sketches talk about the Forrest efforts on behalf of Memphis Black Americans after the Civil War.

During a recent battle over his statue in Tennessee, Tennessee Rep. Micah Van Huss was defiant in a statement written during the brouhaha: “Leftists are free to choose not to look at these glorious monuments,” he wrote. “You want to blind yourself to history? Go ahead and live in your politically correct fantasy world. I live in the real world and will represent my constituents from that viewpoint. I won’t be bullied into pandering to your fragile feelings. I will stand by my heritage and the history of the greatest nation the world has ever seen.”

Further, a July 5th 1875 speech that was delivered to the Independent Order of Pole Bearers, a group of black Southerners in Memphis, Tennessee, got Forrest in trouble with Southern racists at the time, mostly because he dared to kiss a young black woman on the cheek when he accepted a bouquet of flowers from her.

Nathan Bedford Forrest bust-statue

Some quotes from the speech:

Ø “This day is a day that is proud to me, having occupied the position that I did for the past twelve years, and been misunderstood by your race. This is the first opportunity I have had during that time to say that I am your friend. I am here a representative of the southern people, one more slandered and maligned than any man in the nation.”

Ø “I want to elevate you to take positions in law offices, in stores, on farms, and wherever you are capable of going.”

Ø “I am your friend … We were born on the same soil, breathe the same air, and live in the same land. Why, then, can we not live as brothers? I will say that when the war broke out I felt it my duty to stand by my people. When the time came I did the best I could, and I don't believe I flickered. I came here with the jeers of some white people, who think that I am doing wrong. I believe that I can exert some influence, and do much to assist the people in strengthening fraternal relations, and shall do all in my power to bring about peace.”

Ø “When I can serve you I will do so. We have but one flag, one country; let us stand together. We may differ in color, but not in sentiment.”

Ø “Go to work, be industrious, live honestly and act truly, and when you are oppressed I'll come to your relief.”

And now they are attacking former President Theodore Roosevelt who was not really a racist in any common sense of the word. Roosevelt was certainly not a racist in the Southern tradition of hating his colored "inferiors", oppressing them, and murdering them. The type of racism Roosevelt adhered to was common among whites, especially educated whites, that held it is the White Man's Burden to care for and uplift blacks:

One view proposes that whites have an obligation to rule over, and encourage the cultural development of people from other cultural backgrounds until they can take their place in the world economically and socially. The term "the white man's burden" has been interpreted by some as racist, or possibly taken as a metaphor for a condescending view of "undeveloped" national culture and economic traditions, identified as a sense of European ascendancy which has been called "cultural imperialism". An alternative interpretation is the philanthropic view, common in Rudyard Kipling's formative years, that the rich (whites) have a moral duty and obligation to help "the poor" (coloreds) "better" themselves whether the poor (coloreds) want the help or not. [Blog Editor: Similar text in paragraph scroll or page search for “From David Cody, The growth of the British Empire” at this link - http://widercontexts.gyldendal.dk/theempire/TheWhiteMansBurden/post-reading.aspx]

This style of racism probably shouldn't be called racism because that is misleading. We don't have a modern term that expresses the prevailing belief of the ruling class of the time. Roosevelt's outlook was one of benevolence such as one has for a child. Condescending perhaps but not evil.

But because his statue outside the Museum of Natural History in New York City depicts him as a white man of great stature with two men subordinate and trailing behind, one black and one Native American Indian, the censors and the revisionists are demanding its removal.

And it’s a damn shame, because history is so much more complicated than just a few years out of any one person’s life, a life that holds so many different possibilities and opportunities to do the right thing for all, to never ask for forgiveness or to one day seek redemption and beg for forgiveness.

The Death of History

Oct 7, 2015

It is the purpose of Islamic State, ISIS, to annihilate Kafir civilizations, including their history. ISIS is destroying the antiquities and history of Syria, doing what Islam has done for 1400 years.

Islam calls all history that came before Mohammed, jahiliyah, ignorance which is offensive to Allah. It is to be annihilated.

When there are riots and collapse of governments in the Islamic Middle East, museums are ransacked, treasures stolen and destroyed. It was Islam that tried to destroy the pyramids of Egypt. And Islam that destroyed the Bamyam Buddhas of Afghanistan.

In our new Tennessee textbooks, history is being rewritten to present Islam only as a force for good. Meanwhile we are seeing the death of humanity’s history.

Muslim Neighbors

Oct 20, 2015

Recently Vanderbilt University hosted an anti-Islamophobia conference called Muslim Neighbors. The conference was a dialogue about inclusiveness. But we should examine what the term “Muslim neighbor” means by looking at Mohammed, the perfect Muslim neighbor.

Mohammed had neighbors in Mecca, but he caused so many arguments and fights that he had to leave and go to Medina. Half the population of Medina were Jews, Mohammed’s new neighbors. In Medina he attacked the Jews, enslaved, murdered, and exiled them. After three years, there were no more Jews for neighbors. He then attacked his Jewish neighbors in Khaybar, took their wealth, and made the Jews dhimmis ruled by Islam.

Mohammed also attacked his pagan neighbors, robbing their caravans, stealing their wealth and murdering them. Then he moved north out of Arabia to attack the Christians in Syria.

Christians in Syria today are being betrayed by Muslim neighbors they thought were friends. But Muslims are never true friends of Kafirs, so says twelve verses from the Koran. So much for Muslim neighbors.

Politically Correct Jihad

Nov 15, 2015

Only a day after the November 13 jihad attacks in Paris we see the usual politically correct responses. Ironically Obama and Kerry had pronounced Islamic State “contained” and its “days are numbered” earlier in the day.

Merkel of Germany says that the proper response to jihad is tolerance and European values.

The politicians do not use the word jihad, but terror and terror networks.

The left of center press says that the rhetoric of the right causes terror and that poor Muslims will suffer from being associated with terror. They should be worried about being associated with jihad.

The professors still teach Islam without jihad. The press will not offend Muslims. Police do not study the doctrine of jihad. Politicians cry out for more Muslim refugees.

We are losing a civilizational war because of political correctness. To win we must start using the language of Islam. We must start conversations that about the ideology and doctrine of political Islam.

Political Islam About Page

What is Islam?

Islam is a cultural, religious and political system. Only the political system is of interest to kafirs (non-Muslims) since it determines how we are defined and treated. The Islamic political system is contained in the Koran, the Hadith (the traditions of Mohammed) and his biography, the Sira.

Our Mission

Political Islam has subjugated other civilizations for 1400 years. Our mission is to educate the world about political Islam, its founder Mohammed, his political doctrine and his god, Allah.

The Five Principles

Islam’s Trilogy of three sacred texts is the Koran and two books about the life of Mohammed. When the Trilogy is sorted, categorized, arranged, rewritten and analyzed, it becomes apparent that five principles are the foundation of Islam.

All of Islam is based upon the Trilogy—KoranSira (Mohammed’s biography) and Hadith (his Traditions).

Most of the Islamic doctrine is political, not religious. Islam is a political ideology.
Islam divides the world into Muslims and unbelievers, kafirs.

Political Islam always has two different ways to treat kafirs—dualistic ethics. Kafirs can be READ THE REST

Christian Apathy Contributes to Terrorism and Anti-Semitism

A close Internet friend sent me a link to an Earl Cox post in Breaking Israel News. Mr. Cox is described as a broadcaster and journalist that is a friend of the Jewish State of Israel. And from the tenor of the article I perceive he is a Christian Zionist – my kind of guy.

Christian Apathy Contributes to Terrorism and Anti-Semitism

November 24, 2015 12:00 pm

Where are all of the Christians who should be standing for right and against wrong? Where are all of the Christians who should be standing for Israel? G-d Himself in Genesis 12:3 said, “I will bless those who bless you (Israel) and the one who curses you (does not stand) I will curse.”

A basic premise of Christian faith and roots has everything to do with Israel. To ignore Israel is to shun G-d’s word of an eternal covenant with His Chosen People, the Jews, and an eternal covenant cannot be broken. Our silence in our own countries also affects Israel, its land and people. It is imperative that Christians all over the world stand and contend for Israel.

By remaining silent or neutral, Christians are enabling evil everywhere to flourish. Being apathetic is yielding to the preponderance and brutal degree of inhumane suffering caused by those who live outside the Judeo-Christian ethic.

The tenets of good and evil based on Judeo-Christian principles have been our standard, even mainstay, for two thousand years and they have served humanity well so why change them? It would be better to perfect the world based on G-d’s principles than to change them based on the world’s persistence on mixing up right and wrong. Evil and wickedness are the result and terror, it seems, is the means in this postmodern world.

It was during the Holocaust that a Christian minister in Germany observed the changing mindset of the people and the Nazi slaughter of the Jews. He is quoted as saying “silence in the face of evil is itself evil. G-d will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” These are sobering words that loudly ring of truth today.

In this time of resurgent violence against Israeli Jews that is by now recognizably cyclic in intensity but always simmering historically, we Christians absolutely must defend our brothers and sisters in Israel. While some have been active for quite a long time, others who should be active are sadly remaining silent and on the sidelines.

The call to stand up for Israel is true also for Jews in order that they do not have their religion and rights undermined by legal means, media opposition or other hostile opposition. As far as media opposition, the Jews of Israel have a lot to lose if a particular Israeli English speaking leftist paper were to have its way. We already see what hostile opposition looks like. There is currently an apparent legal opposition to Jewish history and sacred sites now by the UN with UNESCO’s declaration of Rachel’s Tomb and the Cave of the Patriarchs as being Muslim.

We have a biased international body with certain legal abilities to change history and likely alter visitation rights to holy sites sacred to both Christians and Jews. The modern rewriting of the history of the Temple Mount by Muslims is well known. Injustice to Jewish history must be opposed on all fronts.

It is essential for Christians and Jews to work together. We must take our Judeo-Christian principles to the courts in each of our countries, to the world courts and to university campuses. We must teach and uphold our G-d given Judeo-Christian principles and make certain the facts on the ground are accurately taught (and reported) to be sure students are receiving accurate information in their quest for a balanced education.

It will take every ounce of our strength here in America to keep our government aligned in allegiance to the G-d given land of Israel and to the Jewish nation of Israel. What G-d provides, no man has a right to discard or destroy. The commandments and covenants of G-d are forever and when He says they are eternal that is exactly what He means … forever. Standing for Israel is the same as standing for G-d and vice-versa.

It is only in democratic, freedom loving societies mostly in the U.S., Europe and Israel that Christians really are able to take a stand for the faith without punitive retribution. For the moment this is true but the future is uncertain if we remain silent and allow evil to gain ground and triumph.

Let us remember the haunting words of Martin Niemoller (1892-1984), a prominent Protestant pastor who said, “First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me.”
