Ari Bussel shared an email with which I had to do a little
deciphering to understand the chain of who sent what.
Apparently a Pablo Nankin, MD sent a link to Ari Bussel and Zvi
Raviv to an article whining about discrimination conducted by Jews in Israel
against Arab-Israelis, Arabs living Judea-Samaria and among the Arab denizens (er
I mean citizens) living under Palestinian Authority rule.

For American readers who are unaware, HAARETZ is a Israeli
Left-Wing publication dishing out Left-Wing propaganda much like the NY
Times or WaPo.
The bulk of Ari’s email sets the record straight opposing the
blatant propaganda in HAARETZ. My inclination is to share on the
Left-Right divide that exists in Israel just as it does in the USA, but I sense
that might dilute Ari’s very essential message. So, I recuse my opinion.
In Ari’s email a response from Zvi Raviv follows Ari’s
thoughts. It is short in length and I believe it is a good precursor to the Ari
response. Thus, I place toward the beginning.

I read the article and not only the captions.
If there are 1.4% of Arabs employed by the Hi-Tech as
compared to 10.7% of Jews and considering that Jews outnumber the Arabs by a
margin of 4 to 1, that means that the comparison is not 1 in 10, but rather 1
compared to 2.5.
The article was written by an Arab journalist that
interviewed participants of one project not taking into consideration that
there are several initiatives to include Arabs in the Hi-Tech industry
such as entrepreneur Erel Margalit who not only employs Arabs in Israel
but has invested in the PA as well.
The writer is right. Arabs don't serve in the Army and
many initiatives are born during the years of Military service. The writer
didn't include in the article that many of the Israeli employed in Hi-tech
is involved in Security projects from iron dome to Cyber and obviously the
Arab sector is not represented there.
I think that the comment that the Arabs are underrepresented
because "there are no connections overseas" is a major BS. what
about 23 Arab Countries or 56 Muslim Countries. many Israeli
companies have contacts there even without the language. the Israeli Arab
doesn't understand that he (or She) can be the strongest BRIDGE between
Israel and the Arab World??
A few occupations in Israel are becoming more and more a
"domain" of the Arab community, such as Doctors or Pharmacists. The
numbers of Arabs employed as such are a product of local incentives and the
"Status" that a Dr. attains in his or her society.
I am the chair of the General assembly of the largest
Teachers' College in Jerusalem the David Yellin College. we have more than
20% Arabs in our classes (their ratio of the society) and we are about to open
a special Campus in east Jerusalem. We found out that contrary to
incitement against Israel and Jews in general, they know nothing about us
because they were kept apart by their leadership which reflects in other
areas!!
I hope these facts clarify the situation.

Dear Pablo,
Shavua Tov!
First, Tzi’s reply is very much appreciated - for its
content, for taking the time and given the position he chairs.
Second, the philanthropy, concern and springing-to-action by
the Brits is admirable and exemplary. What a pity they did not, first, focus on
the Muslim population in London and the UK, providing equal opportunities and
networking-possibilities to it; then on Africa, where Christians are regularly
slaughtered, burned, raped, sold for slavery and otherwise persecuted.
May I add the following?
—> Whining & Constant Blaming
Israeli Arabs (they do not refer to themselves as “Israeli”
or “Arabs” anymore) like to cry: They are underprivileged. They
receive less funding for infrastructure. Netanyahu (now the current government)
is at fault for violence in their midst. Always, without exception, someone
else is at fault; someone else is responsible. They are fairies floating
around, doing good, and the world owes everything to them.
The pinnacle of audacity was at the height of the Pandemic,
when the Government apparently was not doing enough; not broadcasting in
Arabic; not taking care of them with a very special, gloved-hands treatment. Because
they, and they alone, deserve extra-treatment before and beyond anyone else (of
the sort “the virus should not affect you, because you are so very special”).
Alas, one of their most outspoken leaders, and a former
Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, is a doctor by profession. He could (should)
have utilized the same air time he spent on bashing the (Jewish) Government of
Israel addressing his people (a leader to his people) in their language
(Arabic) as a doctor, explaining the situation, the little that was known and
the steps each and every person should take.
He could also have utilized his entire network of political
activists and entire connections network to mobilize Arab-speakers to address
the community. But he chose instead to direct his actions against Jewish Israel
[rather] than the Virus.
Easier to attack than to do something.

The Arabs expect a special treatment. They are already at a
major advantage: They have all the rights as any other Israeli citizen,
without the obligations (i.e. obligatory military service; and most of them do
not pay taxes either, and they build as they wish without permits).
So the argument in the article is that their being
“excluded” from military intelligence top unit 8-200 is the root cause of all
evil. Yet, there is an emphasis how very successful they are as doctors in the
medical profession.
If this argument holds, then a mandatory national service
(same length or longer as the military service), part of which can be in
various medical-related fields may yield not only excellence but also
innovation and an entire network of connections!
But the Arabs will fight tooth and nail against mandatory
service. They got used to demanding all the privileges without having any
obligations whatsoever. (Such laziness of action and fierceness of spirit is
not limited to them - Charedi Jews in Israel are similarly used to “study” all
day, while their wives raise a lot of kids and need to take care of everything;
and the men fight any attempt to enlist them to service, so they find
themselves backward in many basic subjects.)
If we return for a second to 8-200, only the most capable
will ever be admitted there, the top-of-the-top, those who show most promise,
potential and actual abilities. The environment is most competitive, and to be
admitted to this unit is essentially a guarantee of a very lucrative path going
forward. So very few achieve that path, even among the “white, Jewish,
privileged Israelis.” (I am not sure what is the exact number. But at
UCLA, only one in ten of the 130k who have applied is accepted for the freshman
class. I presume the probability of being accepted to 8-200 is much, much
lower.)
In such an environment (merit-based), those who like to cry
and blame constantly would not survive even the first day.

There is another segment of Israeli society that is very
similar to the Arabs. In fact, they look and talk like the Arabs, and are often
mistaken to be Arabs. And yet, they are the most loyal non-Jewish citizens of
Israel; and they have sacrificed their lives for the Jewish state way more than
their relative number in society. The percentage of Druze enlisting for
military service is some 96% (for Israeli Jews it is somewhere about 50-60%);
although only the men enlist (women are prohibited on religious grounds).
The Druze are equally as disadvantaged as the Arabs
in terms of Government investment in education, infrastructure, employment
opportunities, etc.
Some years ago, there was a decision to try and “right part
of the previous lack-of-attention” by channeling special budgets and providing
special opportunities to the Druze community.
Alas, there was an outcry, the Supreme Court got involved
and a decision was rendered that this cannot be. It will be discriminatory. And
so everything was scrapped.
How noble of good Israelis and the Israeli Supreme Court to
make sure that everyone is treated equally. King Solomon should have listened
to the mother who said “neither for you nor for me” and allowed the child to be
cut in half. The Supreme Court decision would have made him proud.
It was at that time exactly that we were in Israel, being
asked to give money for various projects in the Druze community. We visited
schools intended to bring excellence and jumpstart the ability to enter into
high tech jobs; and the news hit.

So why the Brits and why Ha’Aretz? Almost like the 1619
Project by the NY Times (if you did not know, our own American history
did not start in 1776 as a nation, but in 1619; and you - Pablo - and I are
both privileged, White men who are racists; not to mention Jews… - the hatred
(thus insanity) knows no boundaries!).
Israeli Arabs, like any other Israelis, can excel in
Universities (and colleges). Hi-tech of all industries does not discriminate
based on the color of one’s skin, religion, political views, etc. It is blind
to all except sheer intelligence, street-smarts, ability to create and innovate.
It is for this reason that the BDS movement and hatred did
not spread as easily among exact sciences as it does in the social sciences. Thus,
there must be a way to attack Israel and convert hearts and minds. This article
is just an opening shot.
If someone is good, he or she will be snapped and utilized -
both for doing good and for doing evil. Look at Hackers (in Gaza, Morocco and
elsewhere - they are the first to attack Israel during any conflict). Or look
at all the miracles that come from Israel, all these bio-, nano- and so many
other technologies. Ha’Aretz and the Arabs will find excuses and a way to blame
Israel for the disproportionate number of Nobel Laureates who are Jewish.
Sophistication and achievements can be attained - look at
Iran, or Iranians doing post-docs in the US. The real question is toward what
end is all this being utilized (end of Israel vs. excellence and doing good).
Arabs are not excluded because of lack of connections. No
one guarantees an easy access or a rose garden. Disappointments, hard work and
dedication are necessary and part of the journey of anyone, be she in Israel,
the US or elsewhere. But Arabs like to cry, and they want to be jumped to the
head of the line, they absolutely expect and demand (they are owed) the easy
road to immediate success.

Look how with very little means, one achieves so much
publicity. The investment in flying and hosting six Israeli Arabs in the UK
pays a thousand-fold dividends, as we can wrangle with Israel - it is
discriminatory, it does not want equality and success for all, it IS Apartheid!
ISRAEL IS EVIL! So let us boycott the computers and smart phones we use!
Then again, the Brits were always on our side. During the
Mandate, for instance, they went to my aunt and uncle’s Kibbutz (Yagur) on a
Saturday, to make sure there are no guns or ammunition, for the Jews’ sake of
course. (Those damned Jews, all they wanted was to slaughter the Arabs one fine
morning, as they did in 1929 and 1936-1939; OOPS - it was not us, stupid, it
was the Arabs! [Blog Editor Emphasis])

I too want connections. I want to be able to have the ear of
the Prime Minister. I want to be invited to the White House. I deserve to be part
of my alma mater’s special task force. I want to go to Davos. I expect and
demand to win the lottery. I want Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Bill
Gates, Steve Jobs and a few others on my speed dial. And so on. But these are
not given or distributed freely. One needs to earn them, sometimes working a
lifetime and not achieving any of these specific ones. (And yet, we live a very
good, fruitful and rewarding lives.)

Zvi provides an example of an Israeli who employs Arabs and
invested in the PA. Remember the most evil “Settlements?” As one tours
the factories there - in Judea and Samaria - one finds Arabs (those who call
themselves “Palestinian” but are unable to pronounce the word) who earn a
multiple of what they would make anywhere else, and yet - we are told we must
boycott these places of business!
No matter what Israel does, Israel finds herself at fault. Nothing
she ever does is enough.
Take i24, a news organization based in Jaffe (part of the
hyphenated TLV-Jaffe). Hundreds of people work there at any given moment around
the clock, including a lot of Arabs, desks and desks of Arabs.
If one looks for loyalty, gratitude or appreciations, do not
bother to look there.
Or let us enlarge our focus and include the entire Israel. The
same Arabs that demand more and more are those who malign Israel, support her
enemies and will do everything to bring to her demise.
But these are exactly the same Arabs that when offered to
live under PA rule, as part of “two states, side by side” object most
vehemently.
Arabs know that the best place for them is under Jewish rule
in the Jewish State of Israel, between the River and the Sea. They have equal
rights and no obligations. They can serve in the Parliament, in the Government,
on the Supreme Court. They work as doctors and professors. Let them cultivate
all these connections, of people from within their community who have achieved
the pinnacle of success to advance themselves, to bring their entire community
up and forward.
Alas, they prefer to cry and moan, to blame and never take
any responsibility. Blame Israel! Claim what is not deserved and has not been
earned. Turn to the world and demand corrective action.
Wait a second, is that not what the so-called
“Palestinian" have been doing for a few decades now? The method (and
madness) works.
Maybe the UN will create a new agency to support Israeli
Arabs in their quest to take over the hi-tech sector.
Then again, we must put things in perspective: These
Israeli Arabs are in a thousand-fold better position than their brethren in the
Arab world, where a majority of the population is under 30, illiterate or with
very little education, unemployed and constantly brainwashed by radical Imams
in mosques.
Stop whining, Israeli Arabs. Be thankful. Work to better
your own society. Be grateful. Show it. Or go to Syria or Yemen, Sudan or Iraq,
and see what life is like there. Go and stay there if you find paradise.
But leave the “old (white, privileged, Jewish) boys club”
alone, for Israel is the source of good and laboratory of innovation for the
world. Please do not spoil that too.
