Announcing Heritage’s New Research Institute: The
Institute for Constitutional Government
November 29, 2016
The American people are excited about the changes coming to
Washington after the 2016 election. For years, government decisions made by
unaccountable bureaucrats or judges instead of the people themselves have
fueled popular distrust, cynicism and disillusionment. Now, they’ve elected
leaders who have promised to restore the balance of power and uphold the
Constitution.
Changing course requires more than simply trying to enact
policy reforms. It is also dependent on restoring the institutional foundation
that makes human freedom possible in the first place. Unmoored from this
foundation, the current trend towards ever-greater centralization of power in a
vast administrative state under the nominal direction of the President will
continue.
In an effort to help stop, and begin to reverse, this trend,
The Heritage Foundation is establishing a new Institute for Constitutional
Government. Its mission will be to educate members of Congress, their staff,
the new Administration, and the American people on the importance of our
founding institutions to preserving freedom.
