I’m one of those Word of Faith adherents condemned by so many mainline Christians. Many Word of Faith critics claim the movement takes Scripture out of context yet fail to actually and validly show anything out of context other than some Word of Faith Preachers or Teachers exploiting the message for personal gain. AND YES personal gain exploitation is wicked and such should be exposed. When a Preacher or Teacher expounds the Word of God to help the listener line up with the Word of God – THAT IS GOOD! When a Preacher or Teacher uses the Word of God to increase donations – THAT IS EVIL!
I did a search in an attempt for the reader explore a brief explanation of the beliefs of the Word of Faith. A majority of what I found went from harsh claiming heresy to less harsh of unbiblical. ALL with no citations from the Bible but warped criticism of Word of Faith founders highlighting teachings that many twisted to fall into failure. After a quick search the best even information site was FreeDailyDevotional.com showing core beliefs with some neutral criticism.
My entire Born Again experience of Redemption by the Risen Savior Jesus Christ happened in 1978 largely due to the Word of Faith movement.
The critics of the Word of Faith seem to emphasize the prosperity message that is only a part of that movement. An to be honest, Word of Faith prosperity has been probably the most abused from its original Scriptural intent by both Preachers who exploited the message to guilt contributions and Lay Believers using the idiocy of name-it and claim-it to twist Scripture into man’s will rather than lining up with God’s Will in His Word. Whenever man’s will is emphasized, failure is sure to follow.
In my case, when I rely of God’s Word correctly, God has met my needs according to his riches in Glory by Christ Jesus. Most of the time those needs have been met in the nick of time. I have not achieved material wealthy place-of-riches in my needs being met. But that is probably more in a lack of Scriptural discipline on my part and not the fault of the windows of Heaven pouring down material wealth on my family. I’ve made plenty of bad financial decisions over time to realize God’s Mercy happens more than God’s plan of abundance.
The place the Word of Faith emphasis on the Bible has been most significant for me has been leading to me to Scriptures on healing and health. I cannot explain why I have not experienced a complete supernatural healing in some physical areas. My suspicion again is a lack of Scriptural discipline.
For example I’m a diagnosed diabetic. I got to that point largely on bad dietary decisions. That is a lack of discipline. HOWEVER, a few years ago (2021), I was in a car pile-up that fractured my spine. I believe the healing process moved rapidly because I trust the ALMIGHTY. I relied on 1 Peter 2:23-24 (NKJV):
23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose [a]stripes you were healed.

In early November I went in for a checkup with my Primary Physician. I pointed out a large bump bottom left from my eye. My Doctor was concerned and suspected a form of skin cancer and proceeded to make a same-day appointment with a Dermatologist.
I learned from the Dermatologist the bump was some kind of carcinoma cancer. At the time I was stunned enough to not pay attention to the kind of carcinoma I was diagnosed with. So later I looked it up under the kind of surgery I was scheduled to undertake.
I discovered there are two kinds: basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. From the Online photo examples I suspect my form was basal cell carcinoma. I never asked. I just wanted it gone. The Mohs Surgery I was scheduled to undertake is used for both kinds of carcinoma.
The Mohs Surgery was undertaken on 12/11/25. It went well and was pronounced skin cancer free.
I believe that entire process leading to a good report was a level of faith receiving a cancer-free healing. Why didn’t God just supernaturally touch my face and boom – all is well. My only answer is God met me where my faith is. I refuse to belittle the ALMIGHTY and rather thank HIM I am healed by the Resurrection of HIS Son Jesus Christ.
