U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia will headline a fundraising breakfast for Republican 1st Congressional District nominee Jim Bridenstine at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Hilton Tulsa Southern Hills hotel, 7900 S. Lewis Ave.

The hastily arranged event will be hosted by Oklahoma's Republican congressional delegation - including current 1st District Congressman John Sullivan, whom Bridenstine defeated in the June 26 primary.

"It is a tremendous honor to have Majority Leader Cantor travel to Tulsa on my behalf," Bridenstine said. "We need to keep this seat in the Republican column, and his support will be a great step towards doing so."

Such an event is somewhat unusual for Oklahoma, but so are the circumstances. Until this year, an incumbent Republican congressman had not lost a primary in the state since 1992. According to Federal Election Commission reports, Bridenstine's campaign was essentially out of money by Election Day.

Individual tickets for the event begin at $250 and go up to $2,500, which includes a meeting and photo opportunity with Cantor. Tables cost $2,000 each.
