FRC Shooting Classified a Hate Crime or Domestic Terrorism

Washington (CNN) -- A day after he allegedly opened fire in the lobby of a Washington office building, in an act that increasingly appears to be politically motivated, Floyd Lee Corkins II remains largely an enigma.
Corkins, 28, was reportedly a volunteer at an organization in Washington serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. CNN was unable to discern a known job or source of income for Corkins and he did not appear to leave a significant online presence. He had no significant criminal record.
But a court filing Wednesday suggests that Corkins may have had something else -- an ideology. And those political leanings could have been behind the Tuesday morning shooting at the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian policy group.
Corkins' parents, interviewed by the FBI following the shooting -- "informed the FBI Special Agents that Corkins has strong opinions with respect to those he believes do not treat homosexuals in a fair manner," according to the affidavit.
Corkins' antipathy towards those opposed to homosexuality could explain his alleged actions presence at the Family Research Council headquarters, a group that has been outspoken in its opposition to abortion, same-sex marriage, and other hot-button social issues.

(CNN) -- Accusations of blame abounded Thursday, a day after a 28-year-old man who had volunteered for a center that serves gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people was taken into custody for allegedly shooting a building manager at the headquarters of a Christian conservative group.
"Let me be clear that Floyd Corkins was responsible for firing the shot yesterday," Family Research Council President Tony Perkins told reporters in Washington about the suspect. "But Corkins was given a license to shoot an unarmed man by organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center that have been reckless in labeling organizations hate groups because they disagree with them on public policy."
Perkins said the SPLC "should be held accountable for their reckless use of terminology that is leading to the intimidation and what the FBI here has categorized as an act of domestic terrorism."

Army sees highest suicide rate in July

Soldiers killed themselves at a higher monthly rate in July than any other since detailed statistics have been kept on the issue, the U.S. Army said Thursday.
A total of 38 confirmed or suspected suicides were counted by the Army last month in a tally that took into account both active and non-active duty soldiers who serve in the Army National Guard or Reserve. Three of those active duty soldiers were deployed at the time of their death.
Prior to the announcement, the highest monthly level suicide rate for soldiers was 33 in the months of June 2010 and July 2011 according to statistics released by the Army.

Homosexuals and transgendered people won’t get any "special" treatment in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Jacksonville City Council overwhelmingly rejected the controversial proposed 2012-296 “non-discrimination” ordinance.
Ordinance 296 created a new protected class and special rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and persons of any “gender identity or expression.”
“This is an extraordinary victory for the people of Jacksonville who rose up and made it clear they were not going to allow some secret council of elite powerbrokers or activists from outside Jacksonville to force extreme policies upon them,” says John Stemberger, president and general counsel of the Florida Family Policy Council (FFPC). “I could not be more proud of the local residents who worked so hard to create a citywide movement to defeat this disaster of an ordinance.”
If passed, the measure would have created a cause of action for money damages against private citizens by gay identified and others who felt they were being treated unfairly in workplace, housing and public accommodations.
“I believe we are seeing the tables start to turn on ‘gay rights’ issues when Americans see how really extreme these left-wing activists are,” Stemberger says. “These are not just people who have a same sex attraction and want to be left alone to freely define themselves. This is a radical group of political operatives who want to force their aberrant views on human sexuality upon the rest of society by the mandate and penalty of law.”
The FFPC marshaled tens of thousands of emails and phone calls to the Councilmen offices. The FFPC also launched radio ads, automated calls and media interviews, created coalitions and organized church leaders to educate and influence the City Council. Stemberger was in the trenches in Jacksonville several times, personally testifying before the City Council and helping concerned citizens organize against 296.
“Between the Chick-fil-A backlash, the recent outing of the new ‘pan-gendered’ legislator in Texas, the plummeting of JC Penny stocks after they started displaying ads with openly gay men on Father’s Day, Home Depot parading explicit sexual conduct in front of children, and now the major defeat of 296 in Florida’s largest and most progressive city,” Stemberger says, “I believe people are waking up to the truth that this is not about discrimination or fairness but about an intolerance and utter disrespect for the rights of others, namely Christians and those who believe in traditional family values.”

Authorities Call FRC Shooting Domestic Terrorism

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is calling a shooting at the Family Research Council's Washington, D.C., headquarters an act of domestic terrorism.
A police perimeter is still in place after a gunman walked into the FRC building Wednesday morning and shot a security guard employed by the organization.
Around 2:45 p.m., CBN News was also told via email by someone at the scene that there's now concern of a suspicious package. It's unclear where the package is located and whether a bomb squad has been called to the scene.
According to LifeNews, a man posing as an intern shot FRC security guard Leo Johnson.
Anna Maria Hoffman, an FRC staff member, later tweeted "Our security guard Leo got shot in the arm. Please keep him in your prayers."
"The police are investigating this incident. Our first concern is with our colleague who was shot today. Our concern is for him and his family," FRC President Tony Perkins said in a statement.
A suspect is in custody and authorities are now investigating motive behind the shooting.
"We don't know enough yet about him ... or mentally what he's thinking," said James McJunkin, assistant director in charge of the FBI's Washington Field Office.
The Family Research Council is a conservative group that stands for biblical values, including traditional marriage. In the past, the FRC has been listed on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of “hate groups."
The National Organization for Marriage responded to the shooting Wednesday, saying, "Today's attack is the clearest sign we've seen that labeling pro-marriage groups as 'hateful' must end."
"For too long national gay rights groups have intentionally marginalized and ostracized pro-marriage groups and individuals by labeling them as 'hateful' and 'bigoted,'" NOM President Brian Brown said.
"Such harmful and dangerous labels deserve no place in our civil society," he continued.
Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney also offered his reaction to the shooting.
"I am appalled by the shooting today at the offices of the Family Research Council in our nation’s capital. There is no place for such violence in our society," Romney said in a statement.
"My prayers go out to the wounded security guard and his family, as well as all the people at the Family Research Council whose sense of security has been shattered by today's horrific events."

SlantRight Comment: Joe Jervis is trying to show that Tony Perkins had a connection to the racist hate of the Ku Klux Klan because a Perkins managed campaign bought a mailing list from the racist hate group. The reasoning undoubtedly is that now that Perkins is in charge of the Family Research Council the Leftist SPLC is correct in labeling the FRC is a hate group.
Louis Woody was running for the Senate in 1996 and his name is on the purchase order for the mailing list. Once Jenkins realized it was a political disaster because David Duke would be on the caller ID of phone calls Jenkins tried to cancel the transaction; however the contract deed was done and the Campaign Manager – Tony Perkins – signed the contract. Jenkins tried to pay for the transaction from sources other than the campaign. And that is where the Jenkins and his official campaign was fined over $82,000.

SPLC wrote some degrading things about every major Pro-Family group in the country and it’s a real long list too.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The head of a second Christian conservative organization said Friday she was told by authorities that a note containing her group's contact information was found in the pocket of a man charged with opening fire at the Washington offices of another such group, wounding a security guard.
Traditional Values Coalition President Andrea Lafferty said FBI agents visited her group's Capitol Hill offices hours after the Wednesday morning shooting as part of their investigation. The next day, she said, members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force came by and confirmed that "our information was in his pocket," including the location of the group's offices.
"I was stunned," Lafferty told The Associated Press, adding that she believes her group may have been targeted.
It wasn't immediately clear if that was the case.
An FBI representative could not be immediately reached for comment late Friday.

While blaming Corkins for the shooting, Perkins also faulted the Southern Poverty Law Center, an Alabama-based civil rights organization that tracks and litigates against hate groups. On its website, the law center labels both Washington conservative organizations as "active anti-gay groups."
Lafferty also was critical of the law center. "We have been on their hit list longer than any other group," she said.
Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the SPLC, had called Perkins' accusation "outrageous." He said the council earned the designation for spreading false propaganda about the gay community, not for its opposition to same-sex marriage.
Lafferty said she has written Attorney General Eric Holder seeking protection for her group, but that authorities have not been responsive.
"Under this Justice Department, Christians are a very low priority on their lists of concerns," she said
Corkins had recently been volunteering at a D.C. community center for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. He lived with his parents in northern Virginia.

SlantRight Comment: This SPLC article continues with a list of groups that I find astounding that they are listed as hate groups. Evidently the SPLC criterion for deciding a group is full of hate is if they stick to their Christian Family Values by denouncing homosexuality or by defending Christianity against a religion that does not adhere to Christianity. The irony with the anti-Christian religions is that they do literally hate homosexuals and Christians and their religious tenets actually call for the execution of homosexuals for their proclivity and for anyone that may insult their non-Christian religion. Thus an insult could be something that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and any religion that openly denies this is an anti-Christ religion. Michelangelo Signorile has penned an open letter to Family Research Council president Tony Perkins and invited him to a debate on his SiriuxXM show. An excerpt:
Perhaps you recall that in July 2008, a man armed with a shotgun went on a shooting rampage inside a church in Knoxville. The Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, like many Christian churches and denominations across the country, is welcoming of LGBT people. The gunman killed two people and severely wounded several others. Police said that the killer's motive was to target gays and liberals. "This isn't a church, it's a cult," the killer wrote in a four-page letter he had left behind. "They embrace every pervert that comes down the pike.... [T]he only way we can rid ourselves of this evil is kill them in the streets, kill them where they gather."
I wouldn't claim, as you did with regard to the SPLC, that the FRC gave that killer a "license to shoot." No one knows what's inside the mind of a premeditated killer. But I would ask: Where do people like this killer get the distortions and ugly mischaracterizations that convince them that gay people are evil? More so, where do others who wouldn't engage in gun violence but who do harm to LGBT people in other ways -- firing them from their jobs, throwing them out of their homes, bullying them in schools -- get their misinformation about gay people? SlantRight Comment: Let’s see … hmm … Both the FRC shooter Corkins and the shooter Signorile write about have one thing in common and we know that commonality as hate. However, Corkins actions closely resembles the hatred of homosexual activism which encourages violence and intimidation against those who take a stand against homosexual immorality. NOT ONE of the groups (at least the ones I am familiar with including the FRC) listed by SPLC promote acts of violence against homosexuals. Why? Because Biblical Christians are all about the Great Commission of Jesus Christ telling his followers to into all the world to share the Good News that Christ has come and has Redeemed us from the Grip of the Evil One. If the Good News is rejected by the hearer then the sharer should kick the dust off his/her feet because they have fulfilled their part in the Great Commission. There is no place in the New Testament calling for the death of those resisting or rejecting Christ. The rejection of Christ is dealt with on the Day of Judgment and it is none of our business in the here and now what that Judgment will be. In this day and age we are to know who sinners are by their fruit so as to NOT follow the same sin but to be an example of Righteousness to non-Christians and Christians alike.
Corkins act of hate was the taught hate of homosexual activism. The man attacking a Unitarian Church indeed attacked a cult that normalized homosexuality; however the attack was warped thinking that DID NOT come from the Scripture. If a Christian takes a stand saying homosexuality is wrong then uses that belief as only an inspiration of hate by one not understanding New Testament Scripture, then that one is exercising hate contrary to the Scriptures.

On today's radio commentary, Linda Harvey called on Christians to exercise spiritual discernment when it comes to the "high intensity big media repetition of lies" on issues like homosexuality and abortion, because Satan is "weaving a bit of truth with extremely convincing lies" in order to take "the compassionate nature of Christians and use it against us" in an effort to silence them and turn people away from God.
Harvey also lashed out at the "lies by vicious bloggers that are told about me" as well as the "cyberbullying that is going on every day by anti-Christian, deliberately deceitful writers" who are seeking to "draw people away from Christ." We wonder who she could possibly have in mind?

Our spiritual enemy is doing just what he did to temp Jesus in the desert, weaving a bit of truth with extremely convincing lies that many will have trouble rejecting. It's hateful to say anything against homosexual behavior, we hear. Yes, people can be unkind about many things but God has still said it's a grave sin and we can still see the clear evidence of that fact if we look.
How clever is this, taking the compassionate nature of Christians and using it against us? If we don't speak up, young people especially will deceived. The spells some people fall under who become enchanted by sin is hard to break and so they go down destructive roads and their eyes are blinded, possibly for their whole lives and they spend eternity separated from God because they denied him over and over.
It's hard enough to take the lies by vicious bloggers that are told about me, but I have a great support network and God has been more than gracious, so I feel extremely blessed. But that doesn't justify the cyberbullying going on every day by anti-Christian, deliberately deceitful writers and the enormous damage it's doing to draw people away from Christ.

We are thankful to God for His gracious hand of protection over the staff of our good friends at the Family Research Council. We applaud security guard Leo Johnson for his heroism and are likewise grateful that he will recover from his wounds.

However, this near-tragic incident marks an alarming turn in our cultural battle over values. The left's war on religion and Christianity has now gone from symbolic to literal.
As conservatives, we believe that public policy disputes should be resolved through the use of ballots, not bullets, through votes, not violence, through reason, not rage.
Last week's shooter, who was a homosexual activist who volunteered at a D.C. lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community center, took the argument to a whole new and ugly level.
Disagreement is not hatred. We don't hate anyone. In fact, we love homosexuals enough to tell them the truth about the risks involved in their lifestyle choices. But for those who hate the truth, the truth will seem to be hate.
We acknowledge the many homosexual activist groups who issued a statement condemning last week's violence, and we commend them for doing so.
However, the Southern Poverty Law Center must be called to account. The SPLC argues incessantly that the use of inflammatory and incendiary language when talking about homosexuality promotes violence, and is quick to blame FRC and other organizations such as AFA for every act of violence they possibly can.

So here is something I am guessing is similar written by Bryan Fischer.] Yet the SPLC has consistently used dangerously misguided language in classifying the Family Research Council- with absolutely no foundation- as a "hate" group. They have repeatedly and without cause demonized FRC, and have spent years stirring up anger in the homosexual community and directing that anger toward an organization whose only crime is to promote and defend the classic American values of faith, family and freedom.
Thus according to SPLC's own standards, it is the SPLC that is to blame for last week's shooting.
We at AFA are blaming the shooter. He must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law for endangering the lives of so many innocent Americans. The AP is reporting that he had a box of ammunition and 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches in his backpack, raising the possibility that he intended to leave a Chick-fil-A calling card with each of his victims.
But the SPLC, by their own hateful and malicious rhetoric against FRC and AFA, has essentially claimed responsibility for this shooting, and they too should be held to account in the court of public opinion.
SPLC claims it only lists organizations as "hate groups" if they engage in the "propagation of known falsehoods" about homosexuality. But the SPLC website itself lists numerous falsehoods about homosexuality. For instance, the SPLC says, without a single shred of proof, that homosexuals are born that way, that it is impossible to leave the gay lifestyle, and that homosexuals are not at elevated risks of depression, anxiety and substance abuse disorders.
In other words, if propagating known falsehoods about homosexuality qualifies an organization, then SPLC belongs on its own list.
We call on SPLC to explicitly and publicly condemn the motives of last week's shooter, and to remove both FRC and AFA from its hate group map.

GLADD is putting pressure on media talk show hosts. They have a target on every Pro-family person (look in first link on the right as you scroll down page. It[s pretty appalling. COMMENTATOR ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT (CAP)
The GLAAD Commentator Accountability Project (CAP) aims to put critical information about frequent anti-gay interviewees into the hands of newsrooms, editors, hosts and reporters. Journalists or producers who are on deadline often don't have the time to dig into the histories of a commentator. Audiences need to be aware that when they’re not talking to the mainstream media, these voices are comparing LGBT people to Nazi Germany, predicting that equal treatment of LGBT people will lead to the total collapse of society, and even making accusations of satanic influence.
The Commentator Accountability Project is bringing all of these statements to light, while calling attention to the sentiments behind them. We will show that the commentators who are most often asked to opine on issues like marriage equality or non-discrimination protections do not accurately represent the "other side" of those issues. They represent nothing but extreme animus towards the entire LGBT community.

An Open Letter to Mark Potok, Spokesman for the SPLC (Part I)

Dear Mr. Potok,
Because your organization has not responded to my previous attempts to interact and because the SPLC is coming under increasing public scrutiny, I am writing this open letter with the hope that you will respond. You should be familiar with my name, since I am on your list of “30 New Activists Heading Up the Radical Right” and since I was profiled in the Spring 2012 Intelligence Report (more on that shortly).
My desire in writing to you is not to be contentious, nor is it to embarrass you. Rather, it is to pursue peace, to expose falsehood, to confront hateful misinformation, and to call on you and the SPLC to do what is right.
To be sure, I am hardly the only one questioning the credibility of the SPLC today. You have, no doubt, read the editorial in the Washington Post by columnist Dana Millbank, who stated, “I disagree with the Family Research Council’s views on gays and lesbians. But it’s absurd to put the group, as the law center does, in the same category as Aryan Nations, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Stormfront and the Westboro Baptist Church.” And Millbank is just one of an increasing number of Americans from diverse backgrounds who are pointing out the absurdity of your recent “hate group” listings.
Do you realize, Mr. Potok, that by placing mainstream, conservative Christian ministries like the American Family Association and the FRC side by side with legitimate hate groups that you call your whole work into question? Do you realize that millions of Americans, hearing about the SPLC for the first time in the wake of the FRC shooting, will now question the veracity of all your listings, thereby empowering genuine, dangerous hate groups?

SlantRight Comment: JMG is posting info on GLAAD, especially the part of their program that takes SPLC listed hate groups and puts a face to the alleged hate group then includes a history of said individual. The Jervis posts a host of photos of prominent Christian Values and Family Values individuals. In light of Corkins recent domestic terrorism against the FRC, Jervis and GLAAD might as well be putting up a hit list for violent homosexuals to assassinate.
